Sapphire Evaluation Rules

Rules for the ONYX Sapphire evaluation (standard track: Sapphire -> Ruby funded -> Diamond): targets, EOD trailing drawdown that locks at starting balance, min days, consistency, DLL, contracts, and how it differs from Express to Live.

Rules for the ONYX Sapphire evaluation. Sapphire is the evaluation stage of a STANDARD track (Sapphire evaluation -> Ruby funded -> Diamond). This article covers the Sapphire evaluation only. Passing a Sapphire evaluation yields a Ruby funded account, which is SIMULATED. Sapphire is a standard track and is distinct from Express to Live; do not conflate the two (see the Do Not Conflate block below).

Summary

Product family

Standard track (not Express to Live)

Stage

Evaluation (simulated)

Sizes offered

50K, 100K, 150K

Pass requirement

Reach the profit target over at least 3 trading days without breaching the end-of-day trailing drawdown

Drawdown type

End-of-day (EOD) trailing; locks at the starting balance

Forced daily loss limit

None (optional personal DLL available)

Consistency rule

40% of total net profit (losing days reduce total); does not fail the account

Time limit

None, but 14 days with no trading breaches the evaluation

On passing

Receive a Ruby funded account (simulated)

Profit Target

Measured net of commissions and fees. Sapphire is offered in 50K, 100K, and 150K only.

50K

$3,000

100K

$6,000

150K

$9,000

Minimum Trading Days

Minimum 3 trading days before the evaluation can be passed. A trading day = a calendar day with at least 1 trade. There is no maximum time limit. 14 days with no trading breaches the evaluation.

End-of-Day Trailing Drawdown

Sapphire uses an END-OF-DAY trailing drawdown. Behavior: updates once per day at market close, never intraday; trails up with your highest closing balance; and once it reaches your starting balance it LOCKS and never moves again. You breach only if your CLOSING balance falls below the threshold, so an intraday dip that recovers before close does not fail the account.

Account size

Drawdown

50K

$2,000 (default), or $2,250 with the checkout extend add-on

100K

$3,000

150K

$4,500

The Sapphire 50K drawdown can be extended to $2,250 via an optional add-on at checkout. Note: Sapphire uses EOD trailing that locks at the starting balance; this differs from Express to Live Ruby-X, whose EOD trailing NEVER locks (see the Do Not Conflate block below and Express to Live (Ruby-X and Platinum-X)).

Daily Loss Limit

No forced daily loss limit during the Sapphire evaluation. The only hard limit is the end-of-day trailing drawdown, checked at close. Optionally, you can set a personal daily loss limit from the dashboard, up to your drawdown amount; it is enforced via Rithmic, off by default, and free to change. Contrast: Express to Live evaluations force a daily loss limit of 40% of drawdown; Sapphire does not.

Consistency Rule

A 40% consistency rule applies during the Sapphire evaluation. No single trading day may represent more than 40% of your total NET profit. Losing days reduce that total. The rule only delays passing until your profit distribution balances out; it does NOT fail the account. Separately, once you are funded on Ruby, a 40% consistency rule also applies to payouts. See the Consistency Rule article in the help center.

News Trading

Be flat at least 2 minutes before scheduled tier-1 economic releases, and re-enter after prices settle. Tier-1 releases: FOMC, NFP, CPI, PPI, and FOMC minutes. This applies to all ONYX accounts. See the News Trading Rule article in the help center.

Contract Limits

Do not exceed your account's maximum contract limit at any time. 1 standard contract counts as 10 micro contracts toward a single pooled limit. Commissions are $0.10 per contract per side ($0.20 round turn).

No Minimum Hold Time

No minimum hold time on ONYX accounts. You can open and close a position whenever your strategy calls for it. Microscalping is allowed.

Overnight and Weekend Holds

Not allowed. All positions must be closed before the end of the trading session. Any position still open at session close is auto-liquidated. This applies to every ONYX account type and to both the evaluation and funded phases.

Automated Trading

Not allowed. Automated trading, bots, and algorithmic strategies are prohibited. All trades must be executed manually by the account owner. Copy trading across your OWN accounts is permitted on any platform. See the Prohibited Activity article in the help center.

Time Limit

No time limit. The evaluation stays active for as long as you keep trading. 14 days with no trading breaches the evaluation.

What Happens When You Pass

Passing a Sapphire evaluation yields a Ruby funded account. The Ruby funded account is SIMULATED. The standard track path is Sapphire (evaluation) -> Ruby (funded) -> Diamond. Diamond is a separate live program stage that is COMING SOON and not yet available; Diamond is NOT Express to Live.

Do Not Conflate: Sapphire (Standard) vs Express to Live

Sapphire is a STANDARD track. Express to Live is a SEPARATE program (brand names Ruby-X and Platinum-X). Do not mix their rules. Full Express to Live detail: Express to Live (Ruby-X and Platinum-X).
