What Makes ONYX Different

Standard-track (Sapphire, Flex, Gold) differentiators: EOD trailing or static drawdown by track, no forced daily loss limit, one consistency rule per track, no time limit (14-day idle breach), futures only. Express to Live is a separate program.

This article lists what makes the ONYX STANDARD TRACKS (Sapphire, Flex, Gold) different from typical prop rules: drawdown behavior by track, no forced daily loss limit, one consistency rule per track, no time limit, and futures-only trading. Every point below is scoped to the standard tracks. Express to Live (Ruby-X and Platinum-X) is a SEPARATE program with its own rules and is covered at the bottom.

Drawdown That Fits the Track

Two drawdown models across the standard tracks, set by track, not chosen per account:

Track (standard)

Drawdown type

Behavior

Sapphire (eval), Ruby (funded), Flex (eval), Flex Funded (funded)

End-of-day (EOD) trailing

Calculated once per day at market close, never intraday. An intraday dip that recovers before close does not fail you. Trails up with your highest close, then LOCKS once it reaches your starting balance and never moves again. Breaches only if the CLOSING balance is below the threshold.

Gold (eval), Platinum (funded)

Static floor

A fixed level that never trails and is checked intraday. The account breaches the moment the balance touches it.

EOD drawdown amount by account size (Sapphire, Ruby, Flex, Flex Funded): 25K = $1,000; 50K = $2,000; 100K = $3,000; 150K = $4,500. Static drawdown amount by size (Gold, Platinum): 50K = $1,500; 100K = $2,000; 150K = $2,500; 200K = $3,000. See End-of-Day Trailing Drawdown Explained for a worked example.

No Forced Daily Loss Limit

No standard account (Sapphire, Ruby, Flex, Flex Funded, Gold, Platinum) has a forced daily loss limit, in any phase (evaluation or funded). A volatile day that recovers does not count against you. Your only hard daily limit is your drawdown.

Optional personal daily loss limit: you may set your own from the dashboard, up to your drawdown amount. It is enforced through Rithmic, off by default, and free to change at any time.

Do not conflate: Express to Live is different. Its evaluation and buffer carry a FORCED daily loss limit of 40% of your drawdown ($400 on $1,000, $600 on $1,500, $800 on $2,000, $1,200 on $3,000); its live account uses a self-set daily loss limit. See the Express to Live section below.

A Clear Consistency Rule

One consistency rule per standard track, measured against total NET profit (losing days reduce that total). The rule only holds you back until your trading balances out; it does not fail the account.

Track

Evaluation stage

Funded stage (measured at each payout)

Sapphire to Ruby

40% (Sapphire eval)

40% (Ruby payout)

Gold to Platinum

40% (Gold eval)

40% (Platinum payout)

Flex to Flex Funded

50% (Flex eval)

NONE (no consistency rule once funded)

Gold has an optional checkout add-on that removes the consistency rule for the evaluation only (not for Platinum payouts). See Consistency Rule for details.

No Time Limit on Evaluations

Standard evaluations (Sapphire, Flex, Gold) have no maximum number of days and no time limit. Take as long as you need. The only condition is activity: 14 days with no trading breaches an evaluation, so place at least one trade within any two-week stretch. A trading day counts as any day with at least one trade. Minimum trading days to pass: Sapphire 3, Flex 5, Gold 3.

Futures Only, Real Markets

All ONYX accounts (both families) trade futures only: CME, COMEX, NYMEX, and CBOT futures and their micro contracts, including ES, NQ, CL, and GC. Prohibited and grounds for immediate termination: stocks, options, spot forex, crypto, and CFDs. See Allowed Instruments for the full list.

Express to Live Is a Separate Program

Express to Live (brand names Ruby-X and Platinum-X) is a SEPARATE program with its own rules, not one of the standard tracks. Path: buy one evaluation, pass it, build a buffer on the same account, then trade a REAL live-capital account (the evaluation and buffer are simulated; only the Express live account is real live capital). Size is your drawdown / risk budget ($1,000, $1,500, $2,000, or $3,000), not an account balance. Its rules differ from the standard tracks on every dimension in the table below. Full rules: Express to Live (Ruby-X and Platinum-X).
