KYC (Know Your Customer) is a one-time identity check required before your FIRST payout is processed. It applies to BOTH product families: the standard tracks (funded accounts Ruby, Flex Funded, Platinum) and Express to Live (live accounts Ruby-X and Platinum-X). Trading is never affected; only payout processing is gated until KYC and your tax form are on file.
When it is required
Trigger | Once, before your first payout request is approved. Not required to trade, pass an evaluation, get funded, or (Express to Live) build a buffer. |
Standard tracks | Required before the first payout on a funded account (Ruby, Flex Funded, or Platinum). These funded accounts are simulated. |
Express to Live | Required before the first payout on a live account (Ruby-X or Platinum-X). The evaluation and buffer are simulated and need no KYC; the live account is real live-capital trading and its first payout is gated on KYC. |
Frequency | One time per trader. Once approved, later payouts are not re-gated by KYC. |
What is required
Two items, identical for both families:
Government photo ID | A valid government-issued photo ID: passport, driver's license, or national ID card. |
Tax form (by location) | US traders file a W-9. Traders outside the US file a W-8BEN. One of these must be on file before any payout is released. |
How to complete it
You are prompted from your ONYX dashboard when an account becomes eligible for its first payout.
Verification is handled securely by ONYX's third-party identity verification partner.
Submit the government photo ID and the correct tax form (W-9 for US, W-8BEN for non-US).
How long it takes
Typical | Usually completed within a few minutes. |
Manual review | In some cases a manual review takes up to 24 hours. |
During review | Trading continues normally; only the payout is held. |
If you do not complete it
The payout is held until BOTH the KYC check is approved AND your tax form (W-9 or W-8BEN) is on file. Trading is not affected and the account is not closed; only payout processing is paused until verification is complete.
Do not conflate (KYC vs payout rules)
The KYC requirement itself is identical across both families: same documents (government photo ID + W-9/W-8BEN), one time, before the first payout. What differs is the surrounding PAYOUT process, which KYC does not change:
Dimension | Standard tracks (Ruby / Flex Funded / Platinum) | Express to Live (Ruby-X / Platinum-X) |
KYC documents | Government photo ID + W-9 (US) or W-8BEN (non-US) | Same: government photo ID + W-9 (US) or W-8BEN (non-US) |
When KYC applies | Before first payout on a simulated funded account | Before first payout on a real live-capital account |
Payout frequency | One request per week | Daily |
Payout minimum | $300 | $300 |
Profit split kept | Up to 100% (banded by request size) | 85% |
Per-request cap | Yes (varies by account size) | None |
